Configuring Management

The Management section allows you to configure plant communities, land management operations, and reservoir settings. Access this section from the main navigation menu and use the tabs at the bottom to switch between Plant Communities, Land Management, and Reservoirs.

Plant Communities

Plant communities define the vegetation composition for different land cover types. You can create new communities or modify existing ones by adding or removing plants.

Managing Plant Communities

  1. Select a plant community from the dropdown at the top left
  2. View the current plants in the community with their properties (plt_name, lc_status, lai_init, bm_init, phu_init, plnt_pop, yrs_init, rsd_init)
  3. Click on a plant row to select it for editing
  4. Use the form at the bottom to modify plant properties:
  5. Plant Name: The plant type
  6. Land Cover Status: Growing status indicator
  7. Initial Leaf Area Index: Starting LAI value
  8. bm_init, phu_init, plnt_pop, yrs_init, rsd_init: Additional initialization parameters
  9. Click 'Update Plant' to save changes

Creating New Plant Communities

Click '+ New Plant Community' to create a new community. You can then add plants to the community using the '+ Plant' button.

Land Management

The Land Management tab allows you to configure management schedules and decision tables for different land use types.

Selecting Land Use and Management Schedule

  1. Select a land use from the 'Selected Land Use' dropdown (e.g., Agriculture)
  2. Choose a management schedule from 'Management Schedule in Use'
  3. View statistics including HRUs by Count, HRUs by Area, and Decision Tables in Use

Viewing Spatial Coverage

Toggle 'Show Map' to Yes to see the spatial distribution of the selected land use on a map.

Land Management with Map

Operations

Click '+ Operation' to add a new operation to the management schedule. Operations define specific management actions like planting, harvesting, or applying fertilizer.

Reservoirs

The Reservoirs tab allows you to configure release decision tables for reservoirs in your watershed.

Reservoirs Management

Configuring Reservoir Decision Tables

  1. Select a reservoir from the 'Selected Reservoir' dropdown
  2. View or select a 'Release Decision Table in Use'
  3. The statistics show the percent coverage of water surface and total area

Reservoir Properties

The reservoir table displays properties including: - name, id, year_op, mon_op - area_ps, area_es (principal and emergency spillway areas) - vol_ps, vol_es (principal and emergency spillway volumes) - k, evap_co, shp_co1, shp_co2

Click the pencil icon next to 'Properties' to edit reservoir parameters.

Reservoir Decision Tables

Reservoir decision tables control water release operations based on conditions like water volume. The example shows a 'drawdown_days' table with: - Conditions: water volume compared to principal/emergency volume - Actions: release using specified drawdown days

Write Management Data

After making changes to plant communities, land management, or reservoirs, click the 'Write Management Settings' button to save all changes to the SWAT+ input files.
