Reservoirs¶
The Reservoirs tab of the Management section shows the reservoirs of the current scenario, lets you edit their properties, and edits the reservoir release decision tables in res_rel.dtl. If the scenario has no reservoirs, the tab shows "There are no reservoirs in the selected scenario for the current project".
Selecting a reservoir¶
Choose a reservoir in Selected Reservoir. Release Decision Table in Use shows the release table the reservoir uses, and the table opens in the viewer.
The top bar also shows:
- A doughnut chart of the reservoirs' water surface areas, with the selected reservoir highlighted.
- Percent Coverage of Water Surface: the selected reservoir's share of the total reservoir surface area at principal spillway level.
- Percent Coverage of Total Area: the selected reservoir's surface area as a percentage of the watershed area.
- Available Reservoir Decision Tables: the number of release tables in
res_rel.dtl. - Decision Tables in Use: how many of those are used by at least one reservoir.
Set Show Map to Yes to show the reservoirs on a map of the watershed, with the selected one highlighted. As in Land Management, the map needs the QSWAT+ shapefiles in gis.data/Watershed/Shapes.
Note
In 4.0.1, picking a different table in Release Decision Table in Use does not change the release table of the reservoir. The dropdown shows the current assignment only.
Reservoir properties¶
The properties table shows the selected reservoir:
| Column | Property |
|---|---|
| name, id | Reservoir name and number |
| year_op, mon_op | Year and month the reservoir became operational |
| area_ps, area_es | Surface area at principal and emergency spillway level |
| vol_ps, vol_es | Volume at principal and emergency spillway level |
| k | Hydraulic conductivity of the reservoir bottom |
| evap_co | Evaporation coefficient |
| shp_co1, shp_co2 | Smoothing coefficients for the rising and falling limbs of the hydrograph |
Editing properties¶
- Click Properties below the table, or the edit icon on the reservoir's row.
- Change the fields: Reservoir Name, Year of Commission, Month of Commission, Area at Principal Capacity, Area at Emergency Capacity, Volume at Principal Capacity, Volume at Emergency Capacity, evap_co, Hydraulic Conductivity, shp_co1 and shp_co2.
- Click Save.
Save is enabled when the name is not empty and not used by another reservoir, the year and month are whole numbers, and the other fields are numbers. Saving updates the table in the Toolbox only.
Writing properties¶
Click the write button (tooltip "Write Management Settings") at the right of the top bar to write the properties of all reservoirs to reservoir.res, hydrology.res and reservoir.con. You can edit several reservoirs and write them together.
Release decision tables¶
A release decision table decides how much water a reservoir releases, based on conditions such as the stored volume compared with the principal and emergency volumes, the month, or the inflow. Its actions are release actions, with an Option that sets how the release is calculated (for example rate, inflo_rate or days).
The viewer and editor work as described in Decision Tables:
- Click Decision Table next to the viewer to edit the table shown.
- Click Clone Table to copy it under a new name.
- Click + New Decision Table in the left panel to create an empty release table.
Every edit is written to res_rel.dtl at once. These parts of the tab do not work in 4.0.1:
- Other Decision Tables stays empty, so to view a table you must select a reservoir that uses it.
- The delete icon and the broom (purge) button do nothing.
- The remove alt button removes the last alt, whatever number is in the Alt box.
- The Decision Table In Use button does nothing.
